| Pastor Robert Paul Porisch was born July 31, 1948, to Rev. Paul G. and Fae Elizabeth (Soehren) Porisch at Slayton, Minnesota. He was baptized August 17, 1948, at Zion Evangelcial Lutheran Church, Iona, Minnesota. Pastor Porisch's father and grandfather served as Lutheran pastors. Pastor Porisch's mother taught in public and parochial schools before and after raising their family of four girls and two boys. Pastor Porisch attended school at Wright, Tintah, Gibbon and graduated from Concordia Academy, St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, attended Concordia Seminary/Seminex, St. Louis Missouri, graduating in 1976. |
On July 26, 1976, Pastor Porisch was ordained in Spearfish, South Dakota. He has served congregations in Buffalo and Camp
Crook, South Dakota; Trinity Lutheran of Glenburn and Lansford, North Dakota; Good Shepherd Lutheran, Wheaton, Minnesota;
and Puritas Lutheran, Cleveland, Ohio. Pastor Porisch accepted the call to serve First Lutheran on December 9, 1989, and was
installed January 28, 1990.
Pastor Porisch married Janet Ruth Heidmann at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fairview Park, Ohio, on June 14, 1975. God has
blessed their marriage with three children; Thea, Luke and Gretchen.
Jan graduated from Concordia College, River Forest, Illinois. She has held teaching positions in parochial and public schools.
She is presently a special education teacher in the St. Ansgar Community Schools.
Pastor Porisch recognizes that his chief responsibility, through God's call to serve First Lutheran, is to preach the Good News of
Jesus the Savior of the world and to administer the sacraments of the church. Through these means of grace the Holy Spirit
works to bring saving faith in Jesus to people to make First Lutheran a center for ministry and mission to the world.
Pastor Porisch is very interested in history including that of his members. He and his family are thankful to God for the blessings
they have received as members of first Lutheran Church and the St. Ansgar community.
